It’s been my dream to play piano but I don’t know where to start.
Oct 03, 2022Most women aren’t comfortable talking about their broken dreams. The would’ve, could’ve, should’ves…….and big REGRETS!
I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s ever had my heart broken. Life’s hurts can leave us never wanting to try again and YES, I’m talking about playing piano.
It feels like every birthday that passes is the death of another dream. I mean, who learns to play piano after 30?
YOU DO!!
We women get in our heads and talk ourselves out of following the dreams we’ve had since we were little girls.
You may think most people would say you should learn to play by 18 and if you don’t…..it’s too late!
I wholeheartedly DO NOT believe that. I’ve seen people start playing after 18 and do great.
It takes a different approach and that’s what I’m here to teach you.
If it’s your dream to play piano but you’re not sure where to start, here’s what you need to do.
-
Learn the notes on the piano
-
Discover how easy it is to build scales
-
Learn how to play basic major and minor chords
Let’s talk about learning to play the piano for church. As a piano player, you’ll be a worship leader. The roll you’ll play in services is pivotal. You are ushering people into the presence of God by how you play. This is why I'm such a big promoter of women becoming more confident in their playing skills. When you play more confidently, you can Lead more confidently. This isn't about pride. It's about people being able to enter a deep place of worship without distraction. This is all because of your ability to take them there in worship.
If you’ve ever tried to play piano before you already know that there’s a lot of music theory that you probably don’t even remember! Me either! In order to play in church there are specific skills you need to learn like: being able to flow and play spontaneously. You will be shocked to know that these skills are build on mastering a few simple playing basics.
2 Important Things People Overlook When Learning Piano
-
Allowing the sustain pedal to carry slow songs
-
Playing the same inversions over and over
Now before you talk yourself out of this I want to tell you that NONE OF US have enough time. In fact, I’ve been taking a hard look at how I spend each hour of the day. When it comes to decided what I do, I run through the “will I be glad I did this in a year” filter. If the answer is YES, then that’s the motivation I need to get started. If God has given you a desire or gift to play the piano then it’s up to you to steward that calling. It's your time to do whatever it takes to make it happen, Like consistently practicing for 15 minutes a day. A little goes a long way and it allows you to step into the calling God has given you.
Here’s are Excuses that Keep Women from Learning to Play
-
I don’t have enough time.
-
I’m too old
-
Playing piano is too complicated.
If they thought I'm too old to learn to play or play better has ever crossed your mind I want you to STOP! That mindset will cause you to live with regret. The reality is that there are women every day who are stepping into their calling at any age. If you think you don't have enough time to work on the piano, let me challenge you to try practicing a small amount of time consistently. You'll be surprised at work 5 to 15 minutes of Dailey playing well due to your confidence and you're playing ability. If you thought that playing piano is too difficult or you've taken from a teacher who over complicated learning to play for you, I'm sorry! The reality is that learning to play the piano is very simple. It's mostly muscle memory, like learning to walk (and you do that pretty well)! What you need is a teacher that can break down learning piano in a way that's easy for you to understand.
